Ok. So you can pretty much just google nielsen ratings and get the most watched shows of the week for us here in America.
In top 10 you got your American Idol. Your CSI's. Your Survivor. ect ect. The usual bunch.
Having limited sites to go to that I can read and research, does japan keep track in a similar way? I know they have some way, just don't know if it is the same. i.e. by household and millions watched to determine a number as based on by the whole.
So what I'm getting at is how does anime rank among other various japanese shows?
Here in the U.S., no animated show has ever done as well as The Simpsons. They were constantly in the 10 ten weekly back in its prime. But since then, although there have been other very popular animated shows, none have had that kind of prime time success.
I know Tokyo Broadcasting System, Inc is known for its popular anime, but I don't know how it ranks with other stations.
Nippon Television Network Corporation is the most watched station in Japan. As I can tell it is mostly comprised of soaps and variety shows. Now, don't quote me on that, cause like I said, I'm not entirely sure.
Fuji Television Network also seems to be another big station. But as I can tell it is the same as NTV, with mostly being soaps and variety shows.
All these stations english sites where little help to compare to other stations ratings. I know I could find more if I had access to more sites. i.e. lived in japan and therefore understood japanese. :D
But in the end couldn't find any kind of top 10 or 20 watched show list ect.
So what do you guys think? Probably some of you could even shed some light on this.
Is anime really popular when compared to all the shows watched? Like breaking the top 10 or something. Or does it stick to its lower ratings in comparison and is usually grouped on "anime channels".
