I've been trying to learn Japanese lately, but I'm having a serious problem learning the alphabet :(. Everything else is easy, and I'm picking up vocab from anime, but I can't remember any letters of the alphabet EVER. Does anyone know a site or any way to learn it that it makes sense? They all just look like random lines to me, and don't get me started on kanji, I can't even remember one of them :P.

P.S. I lost my old avatars, and can't remember the host I used for it. I can't even find a host to use at all to put up a new one. Could you guys list the image hosts you use? Thanks :)

i remembered, back when i was trying to memorize katakana, there was this computer game, it was like rpg based sort of, and the objective of the game was to beat your opponent by using the corresponding syllable with the katakana. so a monster might have a チ on its head, if that happens then you need to find the syllable with that corresponds to it, in this case it would be "chi".
but uh, unfortuneatly, i lost the url way back, you should probably look around for it.
hope this helps. :)

Goto www.dbgt.com, sign up, log in, goto the "miscelaneous" section and click on "learn Japanese." They have some nice audio lessons there. Hope you also learn not to use the slang "Jap."

I only said Jap in the title :(, and I actually thought about changing it while I was posting.
That game sounds really good. It's exactly what I was hoping to find :P. Now I just have to search it out.

i have a few files to learn Japanese on my ftp. if you like what you see and hear and would like more audio lessons, follow the instructions on the readme text file.

btw for some reason my directories dont list when using FlashFTP so use IE or other FTP prog like LeechFTP (what i mainly use)

Thanks riqyn :).
And if anyone really cares and wants to see it I'm almost 100% sure I found the RPG tenrei was talking about. It's here http://lrnj.com/ It looks very interesting, I haven't gotten to open it up yet, but I'm about to after I finish posting, maybe an update later if anyone cares :P.

Edit: Anyone know how to save? o.O I wanna close it and watch some things :(.

I wouldn't much recommend lrnj. It is good for recognising characters but that's basically it. It shouldn't be used as a standalone method for learning kana and kanji, but as an aid.

Best way to master the kana tables is to write them down, column by column, one column at a time and memorising systematically. Make it a sort of a little hobby. Whenever you have a little time and a pen and paper, just scribble a column down. When you've mastered one, move on to the next but always write the previous down. I've learned in that way within a few months' time :D And it's pretty efficient

You can save your game by going to rest in the inn at the town (NW of the island). Don't rest at your camp!! If you haven't already done so, you'll get the nasty surprise of losing all your hard-earned money to the slimes when you wake up ...

Could you reccomend a link to me that has all the letters written down in order? Every place I find has a different order or chart and it confuses the hell outta me :P.
And thanks for the info myo :).

This is a useful website for learning Japanese
http://www.geocities.jp/nihongoguide/index.html#contents

There are both hiragana and katakana charts there. They are read columnwise. Usually, you start from the top right, go down and then top of the column on the immediate left. Like this ...

a i u e o
あ い う え お

ka ki ku ke ko
か き く け こ

etc, etc

dont learn romanji its a waste of time. of course this is coming for someone who has access to a japanese class at his highschool, but seriously the Japanese dont consider the romanji as something which is apart of their language. Its better to focus ure energy at learning the alphabets and learning the kaniji-which is especially important

Romaji isn't even a language, it's for silly people that have a ****ty computer that reads Japanese characters as little boxs So i see thousands of poorlly drawn Ro's in Katakana.... -__-
