Kaji Shiisaa

[Jempong]

Name: Kaji Shiisaa (Kaji: faith-healing. Shiisaa: Okinawan lion statues, used as talisman against evil)

Age: 72 - Died when she was three years old

Persona: Has a very mild temper, and it is really rare to see her lashing out at someone. She is very much a follower type, who prefers to go along with the crowd or to be lead by others. Likes to keep a low profile, and strives for attention as little as possible as she is uncomfortable in the limelight. She usually keeps a calm and pleasant composure around others, and often acts as a middle person in arguments because of her temperament.

However, she can be really protective of those she cares about, and would not hesitate to put her lives in danger in order to protect them. She can be scary when she goes into her protective mode. She has a deep perspective when it comes to approaching things, such as discussion on beliefs and life in general. She was open-minded, listening attentively to others' opinions, and try to weigh them as much as possible, rather than just rejecting them outright even if she disliked them. However, because of this, she could be indecisive at times, as she tends to include too many things in her consideration while making decision. She has quite a low self-esteem despite being cheerful, and likes to apologize often, even when it is not really her fault to begin with.

Physical stature: About 165 cm and weighs around 52 kg. She has black eyes and short layered black hair that are long at the front and steadily decreases in length as it moved towards the back. Her friends often complained that she is too thin, even though she eats a lot. Her body is quite well-trained, and she makes up her lack in physical strength with her agility. She doesn't care much about her appearance, although she always keeps it decent and neat. Sometimes her fringe gets in the way, so she could be seen with her hair clipped to two sides from the middle.

Zanpakutou: Satetsu (Iron Sand) A normal katana, with a black hilt and a black sheath with no decorations. A string is attached to the hilt, and a jade stone is attached to the other end of the string. She received it from her step grandfather and it is one of her most treasured items. Biography: Died in a car accident together with her mother. However, they were separated in Soul Society, and she was sent to area 5 of Rukongai. Her step grandfather spotted her among the bushes on his way home and decided to adopt her. They shared a very close relationship, and she treats him as if he was her own grandfather. She respected him a lot, and she always took in all his advices to heart.

What interested her most is the story about her original world, the earth. Her step grandfather used to be a shinigami, but he decided to retire when he adopted her. Her original world was like a fleeting memory to her and her step grandfather’s stories about hunting hollows on earth filled her with wonder and curiosity. This made her aspire to become a shinigami, so she could travel to earth and witness the world with her own eyes.

Description: The user throws a ball of their energy into the air. The ball bursts into a multitude of black feathers, seemingly hundreds in amount. The feathers then turn their quills onto the target and all violently shoot down and pierce that person.

Healing Sight - Chiyudo #10, 35 Kidou

Description: Allows the user to have enlightened vision to literally see the vitality of another person. This includes broken bones, fractures, organ damage, viral invasion, bacteria, etc. This spell is mainly used in operations or medical purposes.

Bandaidification - Chiyudo #25, 150 Kidou

Description: This is an extraordinarily slow working spell, which is the reason for its cost and placement. Casting this spell wraps invisible "bandaids" of SP around a target, encasing the target in somewhat of a shell. (The more a target moves, the less effective the spell becomes.) Externally, the bandaids defend from about 10% of further damage by attacks. (This is done not by preventing the attack itself, but by reducing the damage that is felt within the shell.) Internally, the shell begins to heal wounds at a rate of 1% for every minute the bandaids are in place.

Overall, the spell cannot be held for more than 1 full hour. (A full 60% recovery would mean that the target didn't move at all. Even slight movement within the shell will reduce its healing properties.)

To cast the spell, one must be within 5 feet of the target, and the spell will complete its shell formation in 5 seconds. Visible strands of SP will emerge slowly from the caster's palms and extend towards the recipient.

Incantation: Wrap this heart in the warmth of those who wish it to heal, and protect it against the cold who wish it to fail... Chiyudo #25, Bandaidification.

Name: Kaji Konsetsu (Kaji: faith-healing, Konsetsu: kindness)

Age: 145 (Died when he was 22)

Status: Deceased

Persona: He has a very impressive amount of patience, and very rarely lashed out at someone, unless he sees a great injustice in front of him. His temperament apparently passed onto Shiisaa. However, unlike Shiisaa, he never hesitates to assert his opinion firmly, and he has a very firm resolution when it comes to making decision. He enjoys a quiet and serene surrounding, and loves traveling when he was young.

Physical stature: Konsetsu stand at about 172 cm tall, and his hair was white with slight streak of gray. He has a long white beard and a mustache and he ties his hair into a high ponytail.

Division: Used to be a 4th seated officer in 5th division, but retired when he found Shiisaa about 70 years ago.

Zanpakutou: Bouda, which he gave Shiisaa when she started attending the shinigami academy.

Biography: Konsetsu was an adventurer when he was young as a shinigami, and loved travelling a lot. He found Shiisaa besides a road and pitied her and decided to take her in. He then retired from being a shinigami so he could concentrate on his young charge. As a result, he has a very close bond with her

He enjoys telling stories about her adventure to Shiisaa, which inspired her to become a shinigami like him. However, as he rew old, he became very ill and was bedridden for months, and Shiisaa was always beside him tending for him. It made him feel guilty for distractin Shiisaa from her academy studies and he decided to tell her firmly to concentrate on her dream. He died while Shiisaa was taking her first year examination.

Name: Makoto Shugo (Makoto: devotion. Shugo: protection, safeguard)

Age: 84 (died when he was 17)

Persona: He had great confidence about his skill, although he did not flaunt it unnecessarily. He knew when he had advantage against his enemy, and when he should back down. He was also quite competitive, and strived to be always among the top. He was very protective of Shiisaa, and treated her as a younger sister and fussed a lot on her. He likes to slack around, and tried to avoid responsibility as much as possible, especially if it involved mundane tasks such as cleaning or other chores.

He was also someone who held deep grudges against people who crossed him. He was cunning, and he used his wit very well to throw his enemy off-balance when they least expect him. He had grown softer ever since he befriended Shiisaa, but he still tend to hold grudges to those whom he really dislike or mad ehim really angry.

Physical stature: He has short blue hair with spiky fringe in front. His height was about 175 cm and he weighed about 78 kg. He wears a dragon-shaped opal pendant that was given by his uncle whom he respected a lot. He has a pair of brown eyes that seemed to glint in gold color at night, which looked like the eyes of a wolf. Because of this, he is sometimes teased as the ‘blue-haired wolf’. His shinigami outfit was usually tattered and torn, as he never bothered to take good care of his outfit, unless it was badly torn and he needed to replace it.

Division: 11th division.

Zanpakutou: Haganeiro Kiba. (Haganeiro: steel blue, Kiba: fang) Shugo carried his zanpakutou on his back strapped around his right shoulder. Its unsealed form was a broad sword about 80 cm in length and 10 cm wide. The blade glows a transparent blue color in the dark. It has a triangular shaped guard and the hilt was covered in black cloth.

Biography: Shugo was born in area 77, one of the worst slums in Rukongai. Growing up in an area where people would do anything in order to survive, such as deceiving and murdering others made him distrusts others a lot. This also gave him the laidback attitude, never expecting much from life and just going through it alive day by day.

He attended the academy to escape the life that he hated. However his laidback attitude still remained and it only started changing after he met Shiisaa. Shiisaa’s sincerity and belief made a deep impression on him and won her a lot of respect. He then made a lifelong promise to be her guidance and protector all his life.

Name: Okugi Chika (Okugi: secrets/mysteries; hidden purpose. Chika: basement)

Age: 103 (born in soul society)

Persona: Chika was a very mysterious person who did reveal about herself much to others. She was quiet and reserved, and had a very composed temperament. She was never seen lashing out at someone, and used witty remark and straightforward words to outwit them instead. However, beneath the seemingly cool exterior, she was actually very kind and caring. She would not hesitate to help people she cared about and would go to great lengths just to aid them. Shiisaa was comfortable with her quiet personality and discovered this quality, which made them very close friends since the days of the academy.

Physical Stature: Chika stood at about 168 cm tall, and she had a blonde hair which she normally tied into two ponytails on top. Her eyes were blue in color, and they seemed expressionless, looking quite dull and not reflecting spirit inside her. This made a lot of people perceived her as a boring and an arrogant person. She wore a cross-shaped earing on her left ear.

Division: 10th division

Zanpakutou: Zougeiro Toukan. (Ivory frost) Its unsealed form is a normal katana with a diamond-shaped guard and its hilt wrapped in a white cloth.

Biography: Born in a middle-class family, Chika was the smallest out of 4 siblings. Out of the four, only Chika possessed the spiritual power to become a shinigami and thus, she was given high expectation by her family members. She entered the academy at her parents’ insistence who hoped that she would be able to make their family name proud. She was always among the top ten students in class, and due to her aloof exterior, many perceived her as arrogant and she was considered an outcast in her class.

However, Shiisaa managed to see past her exterior and they eventually became close friends. After the graduation, she was transferred to the 10th division. She was reunited again with Shiisaa during the siege when she seeked medical treatment in the 3rd division office.

Name: Kudou Hikari (Kudou: driving force, Hikari: light)

Age: 60 (born in soul society)

Persona: Hikari could be said to have excessive energy that is contagious. She was so bubbly the other officers swore that they had never seen her even remotely sad. There might be times when she seemed distanced from the others and thinking deeply about a difficult matter and looked downcast, but she resolved that quickly and her bubbly personality would surface out again in no time. Because of her happy-go-lucky persona, it was hard not to like her or to even hate her. She always tries her best to cheer people up and motivate them to work harder. Her personality was contagious and people around her could not help but smiled and joined in the happy mood.

However, despite all this, Hikari was a very hardworking and dependable person. She would never slack in any work given to her and tried her hardest to give the best result. She knew when to be serious and how to deal with situations accordingly, although she rarely showed it to anyone else except those who were very close to her. She could be firm when it came to a situation that demanded that and would not back down easily unless someone had proven her that she was completely wrong.

Physical Stature: Hikari was very noticeable in the crowd, despite her short height. She stands at only 153 centimeters and weighs 50 kg. People thus tend to mistake her as a teenager and look down on her. Her big round puppy-like green eyes and her innocent smiles seemed to enhance this fact. Her hair was fiery red in color and it was plaited into two plaits at the back. She wore a bracelet around her right wrist which seemed to jingle every time she made a movement with her hand. All these features made it hard not to notice her.

Division: 18th seat, 3rd division

Zanpakutou: Senkou Hoshi (Senkou: scarlet, bright red. Hoshi: Star). Its unsealed form has a rectangular-shaped guard with and a golden hilt with red star patterns decorating it. The blade seemed to reflect the sunlight in two colors. Half of it would shine in luminous white while the other would shine in red when exposed to bright light. Because of her short stature, she carried it around byt strapping it to her right shoulder.

Biography: Hikari’s cheerful personality was born because of a betrayal by one of her closest friend. She was still cheerful in the old days, but not as bubbly as she is now. She used to be quite a serious person who was approached by many of her friends whenever they had problems because of her confident and firm look. However, one of her closest friend revealed another friend’s closest secret, and her friend’s heart was crushed. Her friend was actually pregnant and her man left her to fend for herself. She tried to hide the fact among her classmates during the academy days. The only ones who knew it were Hikari and the friend that betrayed them. She felt ashamed and many of her classmates did look down on her upon receiving this news. Hikari was unable to cheer her up and she committed suicide when she was unable to bear the shame anymore. She was still 7 months pregnant and thus, the baby died with her.

Hikari felt guilty for not being able to cheer her up and helped her through her most difficult times. As a result, the bubbly personality began to develop and she became the bouncy person she is now. She still had that serious persona hidden within her, and she rarely showed it out to people unless the situation demanded it. She thought that her bubbly personality could help to motivate people and their lives, so the incident with her friend would never be repeated. However, deep inside, her serious persona would always remain buried deep inside her.

She was also the niece of Ichiro-sensei, who used to be one of Shiisaa’s former sensei. She was acquainted with Shiisaa during a store room maintenance duty when she had just been promoted to the 18th seat. When Ichiro-sensei was hospitalized due to injuries received from the siege, Hikari visited him every day while Shiisaa was in charge of tending to him. They started to become close during these times.

Name: Satetsu (Iron Sand)

Sealed Form: Its unsealed form is a normal katana, with a round-shaped guard and a black hilt with no decorations. A string is attached to the hilt, and a jade stone is attached to the other end of the string. She received it from her step grandfather and it is one of her most treasured items. She carries it normally on her waist.

-Shi Kai-

Release Command: “With each grain as my breath, swallow the land and the sky – Satetsu!”

Released Form: Satetsu’s released form is a normal katana that appeared rusty. The jade stone infused with the hilt of the blade and it glowed with a pale greenish copper light. The string transformed into a chain about 20 centimeters long. The blade is pale gray in color, with a hint of brownish speckles swirling around on it. As Shiisaa wielded the blade, breeze of sand seemed to surround and envelop her.

Manifestation: Satetsu’s spirit took the form of a brown swallow with jade-colored eyes and a tail that split into three.

Abilities:

First Ability – Desert Vortex – A whirlpool of sand appeared below the enemies’ feet, trapping them immobile. However, the enemies could still move their upper part of the body (from the waist above). This ability prevented them from escaping and it also gave Shiisaa advantage in long range attacks as her enemies would not be able to dodge it although they would still be able to deflect it.

However, Shiisaa could only create this whirlpool only if she is within 25 feet away from her enemy. The size of the whirlpool and its gripping strength on the enemy depends on Shiisaa’s spiritual power. Its original size has 3 feet radius, and every 500 connections gained in her stat would increase the radius of the whirlpool by 1 feet. Enemies with an almost equal amount of spiritual pressure might be able to break it within minutes and those with greater spiritual power would be able to break free from the sand grip quickly (probably within 2 minutes or less), depending on the difference between the enemies’ spiritual power and Shiisaa’s.

Shiisaa could also create multiples vortex (with a much reduced size compared to just conjuring and it has to be within 25 feet distance) but the gripping strength would be reduced by half for each extra vortex she created.

Second Ability – Sand Storm – A sand storm envelops the surrounding around Shiisaa and her enemies, with a maximum range of 5 meters. The sand could blind the enemies and confused them, but Shiisaa would not be affected as long as she was still holding her zanpakutou. This could be used to distract enemies while escaping or to launch sneak attacks.

Third Ability – Healing Grains – The blade dispersed into sand with no particular shape. The sand’s movement and shape is connected to Shiisaa’s will. It has a maximum length of 3 feet and maximum width of 1.5 feet. When the sand is wrapped around a part of the body, the sand would protect that part from physical attacks (such as ordinary slashing attacks by zanpakutou or hakuda attacks, but kidou attacks or shikai abilities that are not physical attacks would break it apart easily). However, very strong physical attacks might be able to break it (it depends on her spiritual power and her enemies’). It also helps to heal external injuries very slowly. The efficiency of the healing and the degree of the injuries it could heal depends on Shiisaa’s spiritual powers and kidou. For every 100 SP and 250 kidou gained, the length of the wound that could be healed increases by 2 cm and its width increases by 1 cm and its healing speed increases by 1.5 minutes.

This ability could not be used on Shiisaa herself. It also drains her spiritual powers quickly. She could use the sand just to protect the body part and not heal the injuries inflicted on it and this would enable her to use this ability for a much longer time.
