I found it a TON better then Trigun but i don't think it beat Bleach. Maybe if it ended properly it might beat it.
Hey do you guys think Akutabi Gamma could beat Ichigo?

Yeah, it was really awesome. I thought it was just getting good when it ended, but its really too bad that Jump wouldn't let it go. Perhaps since it was so much like Trigun, it just didn't go as well.

Yeah I have noticed alot of similiaraties between the two... I hope someone licesences it and does a good job adn sends it out monthly.. though it's very unlieky sicne they'd make 40 dollars per fan if you bought it and maybe some people that just check it out.. I don't know..

bleh..the only similarity between this and trigun is the western thing and mr good doer main character...other than that theyre very different(aside from the fact theyre shounen..but similarities based off that can be found in a milion other mangas...)

I really like Smith in this manga. He is very cool. Too bad this was stopped. Oh well.
pajee
06-02-2005, 09:40 AM
Kubo also said that he started to not like how the story was turning out. Maybe he chose to stop it?
I finish reading it last night. Wow. Yes it is similar to Trigun, but it also had that Kubo touch that made it really different at the same time. Akutabi Gamma wasn't avoiding fights, he joined them and searched for them. Vash was pretty much hiding out the entire time. I would have liked it if Kubo continued it but all's well. We have BLEACH now.
C.T. Smith. I screamed bloody Aizen when I saw him.

It left alot of questions, I mean.
C.T? what does that stand for, even smith denied it, and said it meant nothing.
Gammas past, I wanted to see why he saw that woman all the time, and more of his bloody self.
More villains, I wanted to see them I mean if the circus guy was cool for bieng the 2nd main villain, then others would have been cooler.

Where can I download it? I always meant to read it, anything from Kubo must have some quality.
It's pretty commen for SJ to cut off manga when they are not commen enough, a lot of famous manga artiests had their first publish manga cut off after a volume or something(i.e. SK author...although SK got cut off after 32 volume too...)

Yeah, I agree. I actually read Zombie Powder before Bleach... it's a really awsome manga, better than Bleach actually. The designs, the plot, the characters, the style, the art, the bizzarreness... it's a pity it doesn't have a proper ending.
And about the abrubt ending reason... Kubo said disliked this right? He aparently had some kind of mental inestability problems when he began this... but volume 3 said he was kinda liking it.

Who knows for sure? For all we know, it could just be one of the self-deprecating jokes that some mangaka like to go on about. I mean, look at the tankoubon notes for well-known mangaka like Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin) and Kouta Hirano (Hellsing) and they sometimes knock themselves down a few just to make some commentary. Then again, Kubo could've been serious here, but seeing as how I wouldn't disclose information like that myself to the public, I have a hard time believing it.

I love Zombie Powder but it ended too short. If I remember it because due to first time making a manga, they expect the series to be pretty short? And I guess he didn't really did like making the series as stated in one of the volume. =/ I forget, was it Kubo's first manga? >_<

How did I miss this topic? *shakes head at self* Stupid, stupid, blind, blind me.
I hope the mods don't mind me trying to 'revive' this thread, because ZP kicks *** and deserves all attention it can get =) But yes, it's a pity it was stopped. Don't understand why it dropped in popularity though~ it wasn't like the manga got worse or boring. The character designs were really good (I personally didn't like Gamma's, but that's probably just me), the plot twists and all the weird people... Oh well, perhaps KT wanted to do Bleach instead or something like that. A real pity.
Some part of me hopes that KT will start drawing ZP again after Bleach is finished, however unlikely that may be. There are so many loose threads~ the rings aren't found yet, C.T's history isn't revealed and what will happen to Wolfina?
I think I'll need to draw lots of ZP fanart before I'll manage to get over this. Argh.
Thumbs up to Djudge for the C.T Smith avatar and ZP sig.

Even though this thread has died and come back to life a couple of times, I feel the need to post. I'm a big Zombie Powder fan, so I like to talk about it and whatnot.
I read that many of you didn't like the ending, not just because it was cancelled, but that you thought it sucked. I think the ending was fantastic, even though I had to read the end a second time to think so. Looking back over the series, I feel that there is something more important in the manga. To me, the main characters isn't Gamma or Smith, but Elwood. I believe Zombie Powder is a chronicle about Elwood happening upon these two extraordinary people in their quest, and overcoming adversity to become extraordinary himself.
Think about it. Elwood is the second character you meet, but plays the most important role in the first chapter. After his sister dies, there's nothing binding him to the city, so he joins up with Gamma on his quest. Along the way, he learns how to fight, to depend upon himself, and how to care for others. I think perhaps Smith was reluctant for Elwood to join with them because he didn't want him to be like them. He knows the demons, both outer and inner, that one like him and Gamma have to face, and doesn't want Elwood to have to go through that. But Gamma recognizes the strength in Elwood, and acknowledges it. In the circus fight, Elwood draws strength from being Gamma's "partner," and suprises everyone by coming out on top.
I think the story ends just right. The Zombie Powder was never Elwood's goal. I'm not sure if he ever had one, but I think he's better off with Wolfina, and Gamma and Smith know that. They leave on their quest, and the story ends. Perhaps Elwood will go on living with Wolfina and her brother. Perhaps he will scour the planet as a gun...well...knife for hire, I'm not sure. But the story of the four characters in Zombie Powder ended because Elwood, in Gamma's eyes, had become a man.
My recollection of events might be a little off, because I haven't read through Zombie Powder in a long while. I would love for someone to talk about this, agree or disagree. I just would like someone else's thoughts on my POV.

I just read ZP in one go and I loved every second of it. It's one of those mangas you get addicted to because it's so quirky. I just disliked how it ended so abruptly, and I know I'm not alone in thinking this. I hate the fact that I'm craving more but I know that there won't be more. I just want to know what happens to Wolfina, man...
C.T. Smith = the most awesome character I've read in a manga in a long time.

Rozard: I do agree that Elwood seems to be the character that develops the most through the story~ but I still think Gamma is the main character. I can't say exactly why, but it feels as if when KT drew the manga, the main character in his head was Gamma. Also because of the ending: Gamma and C.T Smith continue on their quest while Elwood and Wolfina stay at that research facility~
If this was any conventional manga, Elwood would probably realise somewhere on the journey that is is impossible/wrong/unfair/whatever to raise the dead. But, judging by his behaviour that we have seen in the manga, Elwood was far from letting the idea of ZP go~ besides, since the author/artist is KT, I doubt he'd want that ending.
IMO, the ending is abrupt, or you could even say that it doesn't even feel like an ending. It leaves the reader (me at least) feeling cheated, because we want to know more, know about the woman Gamma thinks about, know about who C.T Smith really, know why they share the same goal, know what choice Elwood is going to make (without realising, probably).
Inter: Agreed. IMO, C.T Smith is so freaking cool that he beats everyone in Bleach in terms of style. And the quirky/bizarre happenings/people made me smile through the whole manga. Wonderful feeling.

I have just finished the series, under recomendation from IHI-chan. It's a great series, great character design, abilities and a good plot. I now know where all the sword fighting and big boobies from Bleach came from, lol XD. Not sure why Kubo likes to design characters with glasses to be the "deeper" one though. :)
I do hope that if Bleach comes to a satisfactory ending, then he can picked ZP again and continued from there because...ermmm..of D-Cups( Smiths favourite phrase)? XD
Aquarei
09-11-2005, 07:47 AM
Yeah. I mean, not even Orihime can compete with Wolfina when it comes to... eh... the size of their assets. ^^
The fact that C.T Smith loves the word D-cup surprised me a little~ normally, I'd think Gamma would be more the type that loves words like that~ but then again, it's KT =)
I still don't see why ZP lost popularity or was cancelled~ (unless it was completely KT's idea to stop?)~
Edit: *points to sig* Ooooooh yeeeeees~ *makes orgasmically sounds and starts singing Smith is our Man*

I read somewhere that the series ended so abruptly because Kubotite was going through psychological or emotional problems while he was doing the series. My guess is that it just got to the point where he had to stop so he could sort himself out.
It's a shame, really--I like Zombie Powder as much as I like Bleach.

Sounds like mere hearsay to me, something that big would've been announced in either the pages of Weekly Jump or in his tankoubon messages. Then again, we can all pray; personally if he doesn't make something off ZP, Kubo'd also be well off adapting his one-shot, Bad Shield United, into a full-fledged series.

anyone notice how ichigo seems to be a combo of gamma, eliwood, and smith? e.g. the "hollow" inside gamma, design of eliwood and bankai speed of smith ^_^
KT should restart this, maybe give the chars some of the bleach designs too. imo his drawing has improved greatly in bleach.
