Here is a bill that we should debate on:

Be it enacted by this Student Congress that the XXVIII amendment be added to the Constitution of the
United States of America. The amendment reads "Congress shall make no law, nor enforce any standing
legislation that denies the right of marriage to any citizen, regardless of race, gender, or sexual preference."
Be it further enacted that the working definition of marriage in the United States of America shall be "A union, be it
civil or faith-based, between two people, regardless of the race, gender, or sexual preference of either person
involved." With the enactment of this amendment any and all conflicting legislation and practices shall be declared
null and void.

wat about age?

Babbo

Babbo supports the protection of Marriage act(or whatever that ammendment protecting marriage is called) so He naturally doesn't support this....

however there a couple of rights that are currently limited to marriage that Babbo thinks for now shouldn't be limited to marriage only...an example could be the right to visit in hospitals, that currently same-sex couples don't have....either way I still don't support same-sex marriage, I just don't think overly negative policy towards them is going to help us develop the eventual stong protection of marriage as just between a man and a woman.........

I see babbo, well i was for this bill, when i was debating on =) even though there are was alot of loop holes in it =/ like age and now many wife or hub u can have. I believe same sex marriage shouldn't be allow since it is disrupting the natural flow in this world. i mean i dun really see animals mating wif the same sex. Nor they would try it, But something that i Do understand that some animals (mainly fish) will change sex inorder to protect his or her kind. But when the animal change his or her sex it total change. Not like how we see human who "try" to change their sex but isn't that sucessful, because human cannot be one thing and den become another. For ex. a guy cannot not become a girl, since that guy might have boobs', and lose his "****" he will never have the tools to have a baby. =T Same here a female the might ..... u know wat i mean. I am for banning same sex marriage since 11 states has alrdy =P

This is the way it appears on the bill

ok back to being serious...
why fight so hard for "marriage", let the conservatives have their marriage be between man and woman, while gays compromise with civil unions. If granted the same rights, why make life more difficult than it has to be? They want the word marriage, let them have it. a rose by any other name smells just as sweet so does it matter if union between man and woman is called marriage while union between the same gender are called civil unions?
this country is not built upon the demands of one group, but compromise of the nation.
as one of the founding fathers said, "compromise, compromise, comprise"

thas st00pid just give tehm some sort of legal union that gives them teh same legal rights as marriage but dont defile a religious practice by allowing them to call such a union marriage.

Babbo

you're not saying people should be able to marry at any age are you????that's weird...personally I think that 18 or 16 with permission is more than young enough for people to marry, it might even be too young cause the brain doesn't fully develop in respect to decision making abilities until the age of 21...........

i said have marriage between man and woman
and civil union between man and man or woman and woman
and all your problems would be solved

Maturity has little to do with age...
a 10 yr old can be more experienced than a 21 yr old

Kulong
11-16-2004, 12:56 AM
this is the thing, they dun really want it to be call a civil union, they want it to be call marriage. Since the ppl from john kerry state are being it as marriage. Most other ppl would like that term better den a civil union

ramenkage
11-16-2004, 01:00 AM
then thats their own problem....
take a stupid thing such as a name and make it a big issue
if they dont watch themselves, they might even lose their rights to civil unions

11-16-2004, 01:10 AM
no...but you know how he allowed gay marriages in sf rite?
from the outside yea he looks like a liberal hero,
but because of him, many moderate saw gay marriages as radical
basically he gave gay right progression a shove backwards

Kulong
11-16-2004, 01:13 AM
o that, but it was pretty stupid how there was aline of same sex couple trying to get marriage in sf. that piss of our governer and alot of all ppl. It make them seem like they want so bad they can;t wait for it. O yea bush was piss about it, along wif alot of republican

Lets not forget to vote! =P

ramenkage
11-16-2004, 01:15 AM
naw...
the republican loved it
because it gave them an excuse to point out the "dangers" of gay marriages
politics is tricky

i think it should be a big issue o_o and the name is important... so it should be a big issue

and lets not even get started w/ the bush/kerry thing in this thread >:|

Actually the name of marriage is in the law already, so we'd have to change other laws and then give them "marriage" which would be a waste of time when we could just keep marriage away from them and give a couple more rights, cause the only reason that they want same sex marriage is because they want the rights that marriage gives(that and they probably want to get attention for their cause, which really sickens me, cause they already had plenty of it to begin with). either way you look at it a majority of gays and lesbians would probably happy with a couple added rights, so I think we can and should keep marriage as is now.

personally I don't think kerry would have been a good president either.....anyways, most of the people around our age were mostly voting for him cause they just didn't like bush, not because of his stand on any important issues, most of them were like "OMG Bush SUCKORZ!!!! GO KERRRY!!!!!!!!!!!" so if you don't count those kind of voters I bet kerry lost even worse..........................

actually no...
like at our highskool, jr. high and elementary skool skool elections.. bush won.... in all of them. but yet. kerry won the state of pennsylvania.. so its not all "omg bush sucks" with people our age. so the number of people who voted for kerry.. were able to outnumber the number of bush supporters (who we all thought would win PA)

many liberal states have already granted gay couple "marriage rights" in civil unions... the only reason they continue to whine is because its civil unions are not called marriages. if you call a banana an apple, its still a banana so why does it matter?

As for the presidental election, i live in the overly left state of california. Neither party wasted money campaigning in this region because they know the result will be the same. But that doesnt matter because i dont allow tv ads to shape my views. I prefer Bush, because Kerry doesn't have a clear cut plan for any of his issues.
